The Word of God: Inspiration for Communication

This morning I read the most beautiful encouragement for those of us that feel inspired to teach or to write. The author reflected on the idea of God’s Word as a loving form of communication that comes to us from the Divine. He used the Bible quote that says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God (John 1:1).”

I know that normally the teaching of “The Word of God” in secular Christianity is often used to refer to the Bible or to Jesus as the Logos. But this particular author used the concept in a very different way that in my opinion is actually much closer to the explanation that A Course in Miracles (ACIM) gives to it.

It’s been said, that learning to understand ACIM is much like learning a foreign language in that it often uses conventional Christian terminology such as resurrection and crucifixion for example, but more often than not gives these words a completely different meaning. Indeed what many of us “Course students” consider as the Holy Spirit’s definition.

The explanation for the Word of God in ACIM is no different. One definition for the Word is actually “a symbol for the one unified Word from which come all the Holy Spirit’s specific words, teachings and guidance (W-pI.198.6).” Further, according to the Course’s Manual for Teachers, ‘it is our function to speak this Word to the world, to let this Word guide our words so that they become human symbols of God’s Word.’

If we consider the “Word of God” as a symbol for the unified Word of the Holy Spirit, what a blessing it is for us to partake in using our eyes and ears and hands and feet for communicating these messages of love and peace to others until they are ready to receive it directly for themselves.

Over the years I’ve read so many lovely books, articles and stories written by people obviously filled with Spirit, using divinely inspired words like blossoming flowers to convey colourful and deeply meaningful thoughts and images that have the power to change lives. I believe A Course in Miracles itself is one such book.

It fills my heart to think that we all possess the amazing ability to communicate with words. That words come to us not only from our own limited egos, but can pour down on us like precious drops of rain from the blessed Holy Spirit even during times of what seem to be a spiritual drought.

I wanted to share this insight especially because there are so many of us that feel called to teach or to write but somehow might not feel worthy, or that we know enough about a particular subject. This message is of great importance to you because if you are actually reading this right now you are hereby selected to receive the Word of God and you will be inspired (in-spirit).

I genuinely hope that you will trust your inner guidance and know that you will be carried. Not just in receiving or conveying the precious Word of God but in all things.

Namaste
