A Small Light

I read somewhere that if an entire football stadium were completely dark, the light of one small candle could still be seen from some distance. The message here is clear, no matter how small, light illuminates darkness.

So often when we think of letting our light shine, we think that we must be a blazing light, a giant torch, indeed a lighthouse blasting its radiant beam across vast emptiness for all to see.

We may feel like our little light is somehow not enough. We may feel like our service must be grand or its somehow lacking. We may feel that our spiritual development is not moving forward as it should. We feel slight, dim or perhaps just like a flickering lamp struggling to stay lit at all.

Still, Jesus said, “You are the light of the world.” He did not say, ‘You are the massive bonfire of the world,’ or ‘the flaming quasar of the world.’ But simply ‘the light.’

Based on the illustration of the candle flame in the stadium, a little light goes a long way. Should we feel inadequate if we generate only a humble light? Certainly not, in truth, light is light. There is no greater or lesser. It is our ‘little willingness’ that allows Holy Spirit to enter and complete His function in us, which then extends to all…

And when given to the Holy Spirit, even the smallest light can be used for His purpose of healing our minds. In fact, A Course in Miracles says, He will multiply whatever we are willing and able to give – after all, there is no order of difficulties in miracles --- they are all the same.

Within the dream, some may be bonfires and lighthouses. Some, for whatever reasons, may be able to just muster the light of a match --- whatever the case, all illumination is part of the One Universal Light that burns brightly within and unites all things. So great or small, continue to let your light shine and share your blessings!

This week I have experienced evidence of the smallest crack in a big, defensive wall, letting in a tiny beam of light to a very dark place of some years standing; the culmination of many generations of psycholgical pain weighing heavily down onto one or two women. Seven days later, afer setting a goal for healing to take place through honesty and forgiveness, that place is illuminated to the highest degree and salvation appears on the horizon where previously all light was blocked. A tiny spark of light is enough, a little willingness allows the Spirit of Wholeness to enter and once that happens, separation/fragmentation is no more. I AM The Light of the world. There is only One of us here. And so it is. :o)
