The Power of Yes!

The Power of Yes!

Repeat after me: Yes! No. Yes! No. Yes! No…. Yes! Yes! Yes! Did you feel that tingling sensation as you repeated the word ‘yes’ over and over? I did. In fact, when I say these two words individually, I notice that one of them fills me with positive energy, light and a ‘can do’ attitude, while the other simply leaves me flat. Can you guess which one has the power?

It’s not really a difficult question to answer--- the word ‘yes’ and the message that it suggests simply seems to have a higher vibrational frequency whether spoken aloud or even thought of in the mind. ‘Yes’ is an affirmation that conveys acceptance, receptivity, energy and creative expression.

According to the Webster’s Dictionary, the definition of ‘yes’ is as an affirmative reply used as a strong expression of joy, pleasure or approval. A Course in Miracles says, “For if you answer “yes” it means you will forego all values of this world in favour of the peace of Heaven (T-25.IX.1:5). ‘Yes’ comes from within and is at the very core of our nature as miracle workers.

How does ‘yes’ align us with our higher purpose? It confirms our willingness to be lead by Spirit and supported by the angels awaiting our call. It is a decision to commit. The German poet and novelist Goethe wrote, ‘the moment one commits (or says “yes”) all sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one’s favour all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamed would have come his way.”

I experienced this for myself this morning while trying to make a decision between two options. After reviewing the choices over and over in my mind for a couple of days, I sat weighing the ‘pros’ and ‘cons’ of each. Although intellectually, I know that all events are neutral (people places and things included), when I thought of the options that had a ‘yes’ response I noticed that my doubts cleared away—my mind became peaceful and at the same time stimulated with the potential of new possibilities.

In fact, the ‘yes’ response made me feel alive and vibrant. As I continued to focus on the word ‘yes’ and eventually began to chant it over and over, I realized it made a powerful mantra that gave me an utter sense of freedom and certainty. However, to say ‘yes’ to life is more than just speaking a word (which according to the Course is only a symbol of a symbol), it is an affirmation.

To say ‘yes’ is to align with openness, love, happiness, gratitude and a spirit of giving and receiving. It is a joyful reclaiming of the carefree inner child that desires to play, eat ice cream and stay up late. It is a gentle enthusiasm that brings a smile to the lips of those that speak it and a spark to the mind of those that think it because at it’s centre it serves as a gentle reminder that everything is okay!

‘Yes’ is optimistic. It means ‘I can,’ ‘I Am’ and all is well. With the power of ‘yes’ resistance melts away like the last snow of winter and allows our path to gently unfold before us with the assurance that that all roads lead home, because all is safe in the Mind of God. So the next time you are tempted to make ‘no’ the reply to whatever life places before you, turn that frown upside down and say ‘yes instead--- try it. I guarantee you’ll be glad you did!
